Check out our students exploring biological molecules in our classrooms. From building models of DNA, testing for the presence of carbohydrates, to practicing their pipetting skills and gel electrophoresis. These students in our Regular Biology and SpEd Biology classrooms are exploring the very molecules from which we are made.

The biology teachers from Eastie took a field trip to Harvard today to be trained in the PTC PCR lab with Alia. The lab is funded by the Amgen Biotech Experience. Teachers from AP Biology, honors biology, regular biology, SEI biology, SpEd biology, special topics, and our biotech pathway were all represented. We can't wait to try the lab with our students! A student represents the Science Department at graduation. Congratulations to the class of 2017! We know you will carry forward our values of Class, Pride, and Tradition.
Three EBHS graduated last night from the High School Apprenticeship Challenge sponsored by BioBuilder and MLSC. The studied for 8 weeks (3X a week) on the MIT campus during a paid internship! Very proud of these three!
12 dedicated science teachers spent their Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon engaged in content professional development expanding their biotech skills and how to apply that knowledge base into their classroom instruction. We want to thank the Bioteach instructors for an awesome Saturday learning at Eastie where Class Pride and Tradition through science happens each and every day. Mr. Faiz brings BioTeach labs into his SEI classes. His students learned pipetting skills and gel electrophoresis. We are thrilled that all of our students now have access to biotech skills thanks to MLSC and professional development from BioTeach. Three EBHS students were accepted into the Life Sciences High School Apprenticeship Training Program at MIT for 2017 and started yesterday! Only twenty students from the metro area were accepted. It is an intensive lab training program housed at MIT. They will go to MIT three times a week for 6 weeks to train in the biotech/bioengineering field. At the end they will graduate with a certificate of training and make $500.00 each!
So Proud! Students in Ms. Dillingham's AP Biology class work with Alia from Amgen to complete a bacterial transformation. These students are gaining real science skills that not only keep them engaged, but also can be developed into internships and eventual employment in Boston's booming biotech sector. Students in AP Biology conduct a catalase lab and isolate DNA
Two EBHS students graduated tonight from the High School Apprenticeship Challenge through MIT/Novartis/BioBuilder, and received their awards!
In attendance to congratulate them were the Mayor of Cambridge, CEO of MLSC, future employers, and the scientist to first clone insulin!! We could not have been more proud of them. OUR STUDENTS ROCK!!!! |
