Our biology students went to the Umana for STEM Clean energy day! They worked nonstop with the entire 4th grade to help ensure program success today.
We want to give an incredibly huge shout out to our students who not only mentored in science, but acted as translators FOR THE ENTIRE PROGRAM for their groups of students so that Spanish speaking students could be included and participate today as well. One student even had the gumption to introduce himself and network with the Secretary of Energy of Massachusetts Mr. Eaton, he got rave reviews from the elementary teachers for his ability to reach, mentor, and keep engaged some of the "harder to reach students" ALL DAY!! We all left exhausted but happy!

Three EBHS graduated last night from the High School Apprenticeship Challenge sponsored by BioBuilder and MLSC. The studied for 8 weeks (3X a week) on the MIT campus during a paid internship! Very proud of these three!
EBHS Seniors Cristian Figueroa and Kevin Turcios achieved a United States Air Force (USAF) Special Award at the 2017 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Exhibiting extraordinary poise and determination, they earned first-place in the USAF’s Behavior & Social Science category with their research project: “How Effective Is Your Virtual Reality Experience?”
This achievement was the culmination of many months of preparation and participation in various science competitions including our very own EBHS school-wide science fair, the Massachusetts Region IV competition and the Massachusetts State Science Fair. In fact, it was their first-place finish at the Region IV Science Fair that earned them the right to compete at the Intel ISEF. Along with this opportunity, Cristian and Kevin were also awarded an all-expense-paid trip to Los Angeles, California from May 13th to May 20th. Congratulations to their teacher, Mr. John Menkens, as well as Mr. Brangiforte, Ms. Blanco, Ms. O’Neill, the staff of the science department and our entire Eastie community for their generous support and consideration. We are so proud of Cristian and Kevin for their academic achievement! GOOOO JETS!! 12 dedicated science teachers spent their Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon engaged in content professional development expanding their biotech skills and how to apply that knowledge base into their classroom instruction. We want to thank the Bioteach instructors for an awesome Saturday learning at Eastie where Class Pride and Tradition through science happens each and every day. Mr. Faiz brings BioTeach labs into his SEI classes. His students learned pipetting skills and gel electrophoresis. We are thrilled that all of our students now have access to biotech skills thanks to MLSC and professional development from BioTeach. |
